Welcome to the English Track Kindergarten, where our core values of Honor, Excellence, Community and Joy are lived out in a truly unique learning environment.
Each classroom team includes an American Elementary Education certified Homeroom teacher, an experienced Chinese Teacher, and a bilingual Teaching Assistant, who focus entirely on that class throughout the day.
Starfall Curriculum-Enrollment Requirements
Our American teachers use the Kindergarten Curriculum developed by the award winning Starfall learning website. Like American Kindergartners, our children start each day with Circle Time, then move into a variety of activities designed to help them master phonics and learn to love reading and writing. Students complete the 1st semester of our Elementary math curriculum, enjoy Arts and Music in class, and learn Science, & IT through Starfall readers, the adjacent Library and IT lab.
These activities are broken up by frequent breaks, transitions, and morning snack, as well as the SPARK PE class. The SPARK curriculum is one of the most popular Kindergarten and Elementary Physical Education Curriculum in the United States, and a core part of our Kindergarten curriculum. Our US certified PE teacher helps students develop age-appropriate loco-motor skills and physical fitness through hundreds of games, accompanied by fun, English children's music.
After Lunch, our students enjoy 45 minutes of free play in a dozen centers, using Montessori inspired toys, manipulatives, and more, many adapted from our AAAA standard, Montessori approved Chinese Kindergarten. After another 40 minutes of outdoor PE, they return for two Chinese classes each day.
Our Chinese teachers are experienced Kindergarten teachers, and help our children better understand and express what they are learning in the English language class using Chinese. Each Chinese class is focused on Language, Pinyin, Math, Art/Science, or Social Studies, in order for students to develop a broad perspective and be well prepared for 1st grade in either the SMIC English Track or Chinese Track.
We also aim to broaden student's perspective of the world around them, and have been warmly welcomed by many of the businesses in the Yizhuang BDA. Students loved making pizzas at Papa Johns, and the friends bankers at China CITIC not only opened Bank Accounts for each child, but gave them a tour of the vaults and offices as well. Students enjoy the natural world as well, picnicking in Nanhaizi Park and picking Persimmons from our own Kindergarten fruit trees. And nothing beats seeing who can roll the largest Snowball!
We certainly don't want to leave parents out of all the fun, and invite them to come join us for open classes, fashion shows, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter celebrations, conferences, and much more.
